Aims and objectives of the Junior Researcher Association

The Junior Researcher Association addresses the issues concerning the temporary academic staff at Aarhus University. Overall, we aim to improve the working conditions for junior researchers and work closely with the Aarhus University leadership and administration to achieve the best possible environment, making Aarhus University a more attractive place for postdoctoral training.

We focus on:

  • Discussing and improving working conditions for junior researchers
  • Representing junior researchers from all faculties, schools, and departments of Aarhus University in political boards
  • Facilitating communication and networking between junior researchers within all faculties, schools, and departments of Aarhus University
  • Creating an intellectual framework (e.g., interdisciplinary collaboration) for junior researchers at Aarhus University.

Stuck in the postdoc svamp

In November, the Danish Ministry for Research and Education will redraft the law regulating staff structure at Danish public research institutions, including universities, "Stillingstruktur for videnskabeligt personale ved universiteter".

The primary role of the university is to conduct research and to deliver research-based teaching, and it is thus essential that the official staff structure reflects and supports this aim. Despite this need, postdocs and other staff between the PhD level and the level of assistant professor/researcher, are not part of the academic career pathway.

Read our contribution here.

A link to the proposed redraft is available here.

Great lunch meeting with The Danish Society of Engineers (IDA)

We had a great lunch meeting on the 9th of October with interesting talks by a career and a legal councelor from IDA on the guidance and support that unions can provide junior researchers. Afterwards, the attendees asked questions, and there was a useful discussion on how IDA and its members can affect policies. Stay tuned for future events!
