Aims and objectives of the Junior Researcher Association

The Junior Researcher Association addresses the issues concerning the temporary academic staff at Aarhus University. Overall, we aim to improve the working conditions for junior researchers and work closely with the Aarhus University leadership and administration to achieve the best possible environment, making Aarhus University a more attractive place for postdoctoral training.

We focus on:

  • Discussing and improving working conditions for junior researchers
  • Representing junior researchers from all faculties, schools, and departments of Aarhus University in political boards
  • Facilitating communication and networking between junior researchers within all faculties, schools, and departments of Aarhus University
  • Creating an intellectual framework (e.g., interdisciplinary collaboration) for junior researchers at Aarhus University.

Call for new working group

The Danish government would like to revise the “stillingsstruktur” – the hiring principles that dictate how academic positions should be filled at Danish Institutions.

This, in part, is due to the overpopulation of junior researcher positions at Danish institutions. The number of assistant professors and postdocs rose by 94% from 2007 to 2015 while the number of associate professors rose by 9% in the same period.*

This is an issue that goes to the heart of what the AU-Junior researcher association is about. The JRA is inviting its members to have their say on formulating the association’s opinion on this process. This is a call asking Junior Researchers to join a newly-formed JRA working group. The working group will aim to understand how the revision process is happening and to inform the JRA community at AU about relevant developments.

If you are interested, please email the JRA secretary – Andrew Cassidy.
