Becoming an Entrepreneur

If creating impact from your research motivates you, entrepreneurship might be a career for you. More and more researchers are engaged in collaboration with industry using their specific research field and knowledge, just as research ideas are increasingly commercialized. You can take two paths:


ENTREPRENEUR WITH A SCIENTIFIC COLLABORATION

 

There are more ways that you as a researcher can engage with industry with your own research as a starting point. You can establish collaborations with an existing company and become their scientific expert without creating or leading your own company. This gives you the possibility to continue doing research while commercializing your ideas. Another option is to pitch your research idea to a team or company that wish to commercialize it.

To support this, Aarhus University offers relevant training in entrepreneurship, such as Business Modelling , Stakeholder involvement, Value creation, and Collaboration Planner.

START YOUR OWN COMPANY

Do you want to start your own business? Core competences of researcher, such as problem solving, creativity, analyzing, and communication, are useful if you want to start a business and be self-employed. You can create a company from your research idea or a societal need you have identified and become the CEO of your own company.
