PhD fellowships in the field of Integrative Social Robotics (5+3)

The Graduate School at Arts, Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University invites applications for 1-2 fully-funded PhD fellowships in Integrative Social Robotics provided the necessary funding is available. The PhD fellowships are available as of 1 December 2017 for a period of up to three years (5+3). The candidates who are awarded one of the fellowships must commence his/her PhD degree programme on 1 December 2017.

The PhD fellowships will be financed by the Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University.

The PhD project will be closely associated with the Carlsberg Semper Ardens Research Project ”Integrative Social Robotics.” (www.integrativerobotics.org) which aims to develop a new method paradigm for interdisciplinary research, design, and development of social robotics applications. Project proposals shall identify one of the core problems in or for current research in social robotics or Human-Robot-Interaction research and address this problem on the basis of research in philosophy or philosophy of science, ideally with links to current research in (philosophical) anthropology, phenomenology, social ontology, cognitive science, and psychology, and include empirical research.

The successful applicants will be associated with an international team of 26 researchers, and will participate in and contribute to both the theoretical and empirical research of the project group.   Presence in Aarhus, native knowledge of Danish, and excellent proficiency in academic English is a prerequisite.

The PhD fellows will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Graduate School at Arts, Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University, with the aim of completing a PhD degree at the School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University.

The PhD students will be affiliated with the PhD programme Theology, History of Ideas and Philosophy.

The PhD student’s place of work will be the School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University. In general, the student is expected to be present at the school on an everyday basis.

The PhD degree programme is expected to include a lengthy research stay at a foreign institution, cf. Description of the graduate school’s PhD degree programme.

5+3 programme

When you apply for a 3-year PhD fellowship (5+3), you must have completed your two year Master’s degree (120 ECTS) no later than 30 November 2017.

The PhD fellows will be employed as a PhD student at the Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University. The terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (see section 6.1.4), as well as with the protocol to the agreement covering staff with university degrees in the state sector (see enclosure 5).
